This is the first of a series of 3 photos taken with my cameraphone. The other two photos are also based on this unretouched photo but processed via the GIMP with various layer and masking tecniques.

  1. Wow, I can’t beleive that was taken with a cameraphone! Beautiful! What kind of phone are you using? I have a blackberry and it the pictures don’t turn out well at all.

  2. Hi Milia – the cameraphone is a 2 megapixel job supplied with the 3skypephone mobile phone the actual model name is AMOI WP-S1. The thing to understand about most cameras in mobile phones is that they don’t often have very sophisticated metering and light sensors. For example the one I use cannot handle much contrast in lighting – for this reason bright sunlit views are often hard to capture without getting ‘blow outs’ – that is part of the image turns pure white and loses all detail. A lot of pictures I took that were otherwise very well composed have had to be discarded because of this. After a while you become more aware of the lighting that this camera can handle and fewer bad pics then result. Personally I found that blow out’s are easier to avoid just by being aware that they are often a potential factor. Checking the scene in the camera viewer for blow outs alerts you to try different angles or wait for changes in the light to help minimise the unwanted effect. Anyway hope this helps to improve your results. 🙂
